My odyssey free essay sample

As the destruction of one life began a new person is finally revealed and put to the ultimate test of reality. When I had finally arose from the darkness of inside my mother I knew I was in a long awakening. As a baby I didnt expect much besides making sure I was properly taking care of. I had the perfect life until I was forced to prove my Initiation that I was able to become a True Bonneville. For my refusal of call I had pulled off a temper-tantrum but I was threatened to get the belt so I sucked It up and dealt with the thought of what will Ill ahead. Fortunately I was wrong about the future because I thought I was going to be cut and clean and have directions to my part of becoming the True Bonneville. No but it turns out one of the many challenges is that I have to make my own rules and when finished I get to edit it at the end and put it in the rule book. We will write a custom essay sample on My odyssey or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page My challenge began when I was brought in the COPS (Child Protective Services) and I had to go to my grandparents. They were really strict and only like things done In a certain way. Every morning after you get done eating breakfast and getting ready for the day you were thrown outside. My older brother and I had to use our imagination in order to make it through. When it was a bad day due to humidity, coldness, or when my grandmother said it wasnt a good day we were In our bedroom and we had some few good sides into it and bad sides. As kids we had to play but I was able to brush her hair and play on her computer. Not only that but we were also able to watch 2 hours of television. Other than that you were only able to play with your toys and or read a book. When you would get into trouble you would have many consequences. My grandparents Invented the enmeshment of the chair in my family and all you had to do was after school or special occasion you had to place your butt in there and sit there and do work. You can only get up to use the bathroom, eat, and or drink. The other punishments were the usual: writing sentences, sit up against the wall and only read, and being grounded. I had to stay with them for about 18 months. It would have been shorter but my older brother and I had played a game that my older brother had made up. Its called The Slapping Game.It is where you have to slap your opponent and if you lunch then you get hit again until you dont flinch anymore. The next I was told to go wipe something off my face but I couldnt due to the fact that it was a bruise. Next thing you know the whole COPS people were on all of our butts and came to my school asking me all these questions about how my dad had hit me and its k if he did. Everyone told them he TLD but they didnt take no for an answer. Finally after Like a week they had finally stopped riding our butts and gave up. When the Kinsman, Arizona stated that me and my older brother were able to go back to our father we tot ready and started to move. I was a little excited because I was able to explore another place that I was able to do more research on for my rule book. The only challenge that I had saw for this one was the 1500 mile drive. It kind of scared me but I couldnt let something as silly as a long drive on highways get me all worked up. To wake up early in the morning so we can get there in the little amount of time we have to take out of our life so we can focus the rest on what we need to.I was up at around 6 in the morning and had to get dressed and eat. I was the second one to be up. The first one up was obviously my dad due to the fact that he had to make sure that everything was set and that there was nothing that could possibly go wrong while we are driving on the road. Next was my brother who is always the last minute guy we got used to it by now. We all got water, snacks, blankets, electronics, and pillows. Everyone was ready to head out at 8. So we got in our cars and the Journey began 2 will my life come into place? As the life goes on you have to pick what you need to accomplish and need in life. So what I have decided to do is to go too park. Preferably one that will have a bench so I an sit and think. As I walk to the park I always listen to music that will help me come up with some brainstorming of what my goals in life are. I already have some clear ideas that I will want to bring into my life and make me feel proud life. When I have finally gotten to the park and spotted a bench I take out the book of rules that I have in my bag that I always carry with me.I start writing the goals that I would want to accomplish. The following are: 1, I would want to make a difference in the world. 2, I would like to know why I am here and what I would influence on people and what hey would do in their life. 3, why the world always likes to bring people down and challenge them. As I keep going on and on about these goals I want to figure out on the way out of nowhere there is this kid that Just keeps on bugging me and finally ii wanted to know what he wanted and he said that in order for me to be here I had to claim my territory. Now I know that right now I am in the meeting of the goddess. While I was getting up he got to the starting line and I was baffled. I was curious of what this was. He told me that what we have to race all the way around the park and Hoover crosses the finish line first wins. So we got onto the line and out of nowhere here comes a tall person that told us that he is the referee and he will managed on who will win the race and claim the park. He asked if we were ready and we both shook our heads and he started counting. 3.. 2. 1 . . GO! All you see is us two running all the way around the park.During the time I am running I look to my left and I see him neck and neck to me. So I decided to reduce my speed and come right up behind him so I dont have the wind right in my face and so I can gain acceleration when it comes to the end. As we come to the last mum sprint I gotten enough speed that I cut him off because I realized that he is tired. As I gained speed he looks at me shocked. I run as fast as my legs would take me and surprisingly I was running so fast he was going farther away from me. As soon as I passed the finish the finish line all I hear him say is FINISHED. When my opponent finally came up to me he congratulated me and told me I can go back and do what I was doing. When I had gotten back to my book I immediately put that experience in the rule book and finished up my goals. After I finished up putting in my last thought I closed it, put it back into my bag and Just sat there. I was tired of doing things I Just wanted to take a break and Just relax a bit before I continue my Journey. Right before it was hitting when I get up I Just walk up and follow a little cement path and it goes on for miles.I just walked and I dont know how long I walked until it gets to my cabin of where I was supposed to stay do to my challenge. I ended up getting there at around 10:30 pm. As I put my bag away I realize that I havent done what I wanted to do. Tomorrow I am focusing on me. My interests come into action When one commits to seriousness he has to have something as a getaway. When I always have the time or I Just dont feel like dealing with certain things I would focus on the one thing and that would be my track and field career.I need to get better at it so eventually I can go to state and letter in the events that I do. I am not a track runner I am more of a fielder. My events that I do is long and triple Jump. So far my record that was recorded in practice was 16 1 for my long Jump. When it comes to districts for long Jump I only got 153. 5 because I scratched on my 3 Jump. As for my triple Jump my longest recorded was 324. As for districts I had wrong footing so I only got 316. 5. I want to get stronger at it so what I need to do is focus on my strategy. Once I do that then I can focus on how to make me have faster acceleration so I can be able to get more momentum to Jump no only higher but farther as well. When I have accomplished those 2 things in my head I will be unstoppable. What I always start out for training is running at least a mile. I do that because it calms me down and gets me worked up for the competitiveness that I bring to myself. I love to halogen myself because it helps me understand that I can overcome even myself. When I get done with my run I usually do some stretching right after that. When I am feeling rushed I dont necessarily do the stretching I go straight into the work. For this kind of thing I do I mainly do it for not wanting to go home while challenging my mental stability? So I am having an apotheosis phase right now. I Just want to do things that helps me have fun and be a kid instead of worrying things right now. I guess the main reason why I like track is based on me instead of a team. I like Just to ark alone when being a competitive person. I dont really have a reason I guess I just like to be territorial and keep me limits to myself instead of having to share what I got. That is why I train so much and keep my training at a precise schedule and follow through it so that I know that no matter what I will come up on top. When I lose my meets and dont get placed into the top 4 1 feel down on myself because I feel like I didnt put in the amount of work that I should have for this reason. I believe that is why I am in MAMA (Mixed Martial Arts). I have really bad OPTS and that causes me to eave anger management. When I get into tournaments for my fighting career I release all the anger that I get. I mostly get my anger from my family.I dont really enjoy my family so thats why I am in these activities to make sure that when I do take stuff out on it isnt the people I end up getting in trouble with. I was never a champion for my fighting career but I was a champion for my grappling and grounding career. I study under McMahon Brazilin Juju-jujitsu. Not only do they teach me about different types of scenarios but also we fight in different types of clothing as well. We get into GIs and we have to fight in those and we fight without them. I enter in what is called NAG tournament and that is a tournament held in many different 4th time going into there.Since I became experienced in the tournament I can already Judge people and use the certain moves based on what they look like of their stance and previous performance. It was my first time getting first in the tournament and it felt great. Some things I believe are here for a reason due to the fact of what you have and what you know you can overcome based on your past. I do this based n a stress reliever and not having to worry what next horrible thing will come into my pathway because I am more focused on what I have that is more important than that. I like to see myself as the one that did bad things but turned it into a good thing based on its experience in certain areas. 4 the curiosity of my life Finally the day shall come and you show your true colors. I usually like to Just get away for a little bit so I get packed up and I Just go off running. I never know what I will find but the fact that when I do find something that will suit me in the moment I ill take that chance and hopefully I can get something out of it. I mostly like to Just run to the woods and par core there.I like to do exploration of the nature because of what happened when I was in the 5th grade. In the 5th grade we were supposed to create a society and give where and when it will be. So my friend Gavin and I we created a Native American society and we called it Redwood. We made little bits of badges that look like peace symbols. So what we would do is we would go to the woods and find the creek and we would go to the frozen waterfall and right on top we loud start building our society there. We wanted this to become a reality and get actual people to come and Join.First we had to figure out what is what and who will run certain things. We had to create anthems and money system. As we come up with this while we build our society we also came up with what food we would have. Since we cant actually get fish and stuff from the creek and the waterfall so what we do is we would earn money from our parents and go to the Mint mart right across the street and get some food for our place. I wanted to create a place that I could get way from the world but I realize that I couldnt unless I look everywhere and find out which is the best place that is suitable for me.As I continue to run to the woods I find that this person standing right in front of the cement path. I run up to the man as temptress and all he is doing is holding up a sign saying if you are a member of Redwood clan come to me I was quite shocked on what is going on and so I told him that I was the person that created the clan and he was finally happy from what I could tell because all I see him smiling. He takes me to what he calls is his secret lair ND what it looks like is Just a trousers. But in the trousers it looks like a place that has a whole bunch of ideas. He tells me he has been wanting to Join since he was in the group. As I keep talking to him he finally tells me his name. My name is Xavier Johnson I remember his name from somewhere. I asked him where have we met before and he told me that we were in basketball tryouts together. 000000HHHHHH!!!! Now I get it. See I wasnt the kind of person that was extremely sporty but the fact that I got in during 7th grade I thought I would make it back in 8th grade at my old school. When we finally know about when we knew each other he showed me some good ideas on about how to make the civilization more efficient and with it.We came up with the solution that we would put the government in its own little place to protect it from being bombarded and whoever would walk there would have to be its own messengers gathered from people that would take up all the ideas, complaints, and records that have been kept. Not only that but we came up with the fact that we who created it dont have to be the one that will be held for the government position, but that we will be getting whatever we want but there is some assure way into it.We wouldnt want to get special treatment and that there will be no social class and everyone will be treated the same and that no one will be secluded from a specific event. If you disk obey the rules you will have to either choose a punishment that is between 2 decent ones or take one that all the civilians would think is best. We are not a democracy and force people to do specific things that doesnt need to be. Finally we have decided that we will let everyone decided on what they will believe in when it comes to the higher power. Now that we have everything overdo I think it would be best that will get started right away so in the end I can put this in my rule book. 5 The one that helps you the most When my Journey becomes tough I have my spirits that help me. As we get done building I start to wonder who is there to tell you what is right and what there is to fix. Not Just in your projects that you build but everything that you do. While I put the last little bit of rules that I do I am missing Just one part. MY SPIRIT!!!! I cannot believe this happened I thought I got this squared away. I wanted to find this out quick because today is the day I come home.So I dont even know where to start. I guess I would have to go to a certain place that is alone. Wait I got it. Ill Just go to the one place that I only know where it is. The center of the field. It is very hard to get. When I get there I bring sacrifices of its own land to put it on what is called the Tree of life. After I put the sacrifices there (a marking of your sign, a dandelion, and a fallen branch), I go in the tree that has an opening that my family put ritual candles surrounding the middle of the tree. In the center of the inside of the tree was a mat that is for only prayer use. There I sit and Just meditate. I dont pray because I dont have a religion I Just as my past for some advice so they can help me not make the mistakes that they made in the past. Finally after a couple of minutes I finally get supernatural aid from my ancestors. From what I get out of it I need to take things slow and take everything inn and so that eventually I can use that into my greater use. While I get up to thank them I noticed that something wasnt how it was supposed to go. I knew that it was supposed to blow wind but the only time it shouldnt is when something is happening in the family.Snap I forgot it was my brothers birthday that is why I was supposed to return home with my rule book complete. Now I was going to give it to him so that I can give this for his birthday present. Oh everything is making sense now and all this is because all of my ancestors. It is making me feel like I am a master of 2 worlds. Due to the fact that I got help and actually understood them for the first time. As I run back to the cabin to get my things I am starting to believe that there really is something that is above us and will pin-point us to the right direction no matter what they are. Here I am I need to hurry I have to be home in 2 hours. That means I got to book it. So as I run I am trying to write the rest of my spiritual words in there. As the day comes to an end I see the but will they accept me once I show them my book? I guess we are going to have to find out. As I walk in everyone looked at me and Just stared. Eventually all you see is my father walk up to me and told me how proud he was to see me return. I told him that I have finished my book and that I am ready to share with everyone. We walked to the dining table where my brother was and he has gotten bigger.I would say he has grown about a couple of inches of when I last seen him. After we got done getting settled of when I came back we actually had a good time. Until the time I had to hand my rule book over. As I handed it over I was getting really nervous and I feel like they might not accept me and my rules. Finally it comes to them reading it aloud. After he spoke the first word my OPTS started coming and it is driving me crazy. They kept reading on and on until they couldnt read no more. When my older brother finally got done reading my book everyone was dead silent. A minute later my brother tot up from his seat walked over to me and told me that it is very interesting and that he accepts that. WHOA! I have one person accept me I wonder if my dad will to. My brother walks over to my dad and all you see is them talking in the corner for a really long time. Regardless if it was really 5 minutes it seemed forever. When the time pasted my dad comes over and for once I finally see him shed a tear and tell me that he is proud to accept me as not only a son but also a Bonneville. YES!!!! Now that I am a TRUE Bonneville I am able to Join in the activities and finally reunite with my family in happiness.

Free Essays on Straight Edge

Straight Edge or Violent Edge? The â€Å"Straight Edge† philosophy is one that promotes a drug, alcohol, caffeine and smoke-free lifestyle in addition to no â€Å"casual† sex. Although most parents and teachers are thrilled when youth espouse these beliefs, there is a violent subculture within this broad philosophy that is reason for concern. Unfortunately, a sect of youth are violently enforcing the positive philosophy on fellow students who do not choose the Straight Edge lifestyle. ADHD/ADD

Being born with ADHD was not fun. It made every task appear as more of a challenge. As a child, I had trouble focusing in a fast-paced environment. I couldn’t grasp information as fast as others seemed to do. In elementary school I was taken out of my regular class to be taught in a slower paced area to which was thought to help me succeed. I had organization difficulties, and getting started on my homework was a grim task, let alone finishing it. People thought I had an advantage over them because I had a shadow helper and was given extra time on tests. In reality it was the other way around; they had the advantage. I believe A.D.D can be interpreted in other ways than a dilemma in learning. It is an exit from our conventional imagination of theory, into a diverse land of unforeseen train of the thought. I think what others might not. I contradict your original answer with something more astonishing. Some of the most talented, creative and successful people in this world inherited ADD/ADHD. For example, Albert Einstein was born with learning disabilities, but this did not stop him from becoming the renowned genius known today.

Why 70s generated and accepted new definitions for family structures Essay

Why 70s generated and accepted new definitions for family structures and gender roles - Essay Example This meant that even servants were part of the family (Ellwood and Christopher, 34). In the present structure, even the non-parental adults qualify as family members as long as they are actively involved in the upbringing of the children of others. The implication of this is that there is no universal definition of family. One of the reasons is the fact that the family has evolved over the years. In the middle ages, the nuclear family was the most common family setup. Ideally, a nuclear family consisted of the father, the mother and the children. However, there were some instances around the same time where sets of nuclear families resided together. The family in the United States has also seen a high degree of evolution. The evolution was mainly as a result of the changing perceptions in the culture of marriage starting from as early as the 18th century (Furstenberg, 34). Most views on family change are usually not representative of the facts on the ground. For instance, there has been a general increase in single-parent situations since the 1970s. This is mainly attributed to out of wedlock and fatherless children. The American society largely views the changes in gender roles as well as the new family definitions to be mainly caused by three factors namely, economic factors, development factors and last but not least, moral factors (Furstenberg, 40). The economic problems of single motherhood are mainly stemmed in the fact that very few single moms can actually get a good wage. In addition to this, they have to juggle between their professional deities as well as their role of upbringing their children. This ultimately reduces the amount of money they make at the end of a typical month. The government often offers some financial support to single mothers but the money is not usually substantial. These are the main reasons why the issue of

Innovation of Asian films Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

Innovation of Asian films - Essay Example This paper illustrates Asia as a continent rich with history and culture. The countries here have basically experienced many things that has enriched their culture and filled their history with interesting anecdotes and stories worthy of retelling. China is probably one of the richest and oldest civilizations predating even that of the affluent west. It has been a dilemma then as to why there has been a slow progress in the Asian films and even on their actors whereby they have usually fallen prey to the stereotyping of Hollywood. It seems to point out that despite the rich culture and history of the countries in the continent as well as the world class artistry characteristic of the continent; people including actors have been relegated into sub roles, littered with stereotyping and basically with little or no speaking roles. There were even films wherein the roles that are supposedly portraying an oriental are played by Caucasians. However, it is from these humble roots that the As ian films have slowly gathered strength and over the past decade have shown increasing prominence in the global arena. True there have been Asians that have made big names during the past century in Hollywood but so far there has been an overwhelming preference towards western films and western actors during that time. But, through the years, the growing prominence of the countries in the region in terms of their economic prosperity seem to have helped in boosting the quality of the films that they are able to produce. Rampal (2005) recognizes the reinvention of the Asian film outfits in order to shed the past imagery of stereotyped Asians and take in new and brighter colors characteristic of taking their respective leads on the big screen. Moreover, the improvements in the economies of these Asian nations have also brought in a more educated audience. These intellectual audiences have also been influenced greatly, quite ironically, by the west such as the democracy as well as the a llure and the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. The Abyss The world of films and cinemas has been filled with the myriad of manipulative directors attempting to delineate from reality in their attempts to depict the things that they want. The early development of the world of films seems to have taken a strong parallelism to the real world events. This can be seen with the problem of racism which has been a strong theme back in the early 90’s for the western films. Also, there has been the stereotyping of the Asians as mere second-class citizens. As mentioned, there were even oriental roles ironically being played by western actors. This shows how strongly most Asians are being sidelined as mere supporting actors or even extras with no speaking lines (Associated Content.com 2011). To exacerbate the situation, the stereotyping has even gone beyond the second-class status to an almost three hundred sixty degree turn to make them the utmost bad guys. Many films truly made money on depicting the Japanese as brutal soldiers after the Second World War. This stereotyping has been a strong characteristic of the films preceding the war (Associated Content.com 2011). This has been the characteristic of Asian films which have been like an abyss that has seem to have swallowed the industry of the continent. This seems to have been a very dark chapter of the Asian films which has also coincided to the times when almost all of the countries in the continent are trying to rebuild after the devastation of the war. Most nations have been experiencing hardships and are generally poor. Hence, it seems easy to see as to why there the stereotyping has happened. However, at the turn of the century, Asian countries showed more economic strength and there has been a significant rise initially led by the newly industrialized Asian economies such as Singapore and Korea. At the turn of the century, communist China opened her doors which fuelled the rapid growth of the Chinese econo my. Thus, after sorting through the rubble of the Great

Micro Economic Environment Essay Example for Free

Micro Economic Environment Essay The economic environment consists of external factors in a business market and the broader economy that can influence a business. You can divide the economic environment into the microeconomic environment, which affects business decision-making such as individual actions of firms and consumers, and the macroeconomic environment, which affects an entire economy and all of its participants. Many economic factors act as external constraints on your business, which means that you have little, if any, control over them. Lets take a look at both of these broad factors in more detail Macroeconomic influences are broad economic factors that either directly or indirectly affect the entire economy and all of its participants, including your business. These factors include such things as: Interest rates Taxes Inflation Currency exchange rates Consumer discretionary income Savings rates Consumer confidence levels Unemployment rate Recession Depression Microeconomic factors influence how your business will make decisions. Unlike macroeconomic factors, these factors are far less broad in scope and do not necessarily affect the entire economy as a whole. Microeconomic factors influencing a business include: Market size Demand Supply Competitors Suppliers Distribution chain such as retailer stores Why Is It Important? The economic environment of business will play a pivotal role in determining the success or failure of a business. Lets first consider some  macroeconomic factors. If interest rates are too high, the cost of borrowing may not permit a business to expand. On the other hand, if unemployment rate is high, businesses can obtain labor at cheaper costs. However, if unemployment is too high, this may result in a recession and less discretionary consumer spending resulting in insufficient sales to keep the business going. Tax rates will take a chunk of your income and currency exchange rates can either help or hurt the exporting of your products to specific foreign markets. Now, lets turn our attention to microeconomic factors for a bit. Market size may determine the viability of entering into a new market. If a market is too small, there may not be sufficient demand and profit potential. This leads us to the concept of demand and supply. If your product is in high demand but there is a low supply of it, you are going to make a tidy profit, but if your product is in low demand and the market is flooded with similar products, you may be facing bankruptcy. The quality and quantity of your competition will affect how well you do in winning customers in the marketplace. Suppliers are the arteries pumping vital supplies and resources to you for production. If you have problems with suppliers, it can clog up those arteries and cause serious problems. Likewise, the type of relationship you have with your distributors, such as retail stores, may influence how quickly your products leave their shelves. Summary The environment in which a business operates is very complex and has a great deal of influence on how a business performs and whether it will succeed. Macroeconomic factors influence not only a business but also all participants in an economy and include such things as interest rates, inflation, unemployment rates, taxes, discretionary spending, periods of growth and recession. Microeconomic factors also influence the success or failure of a business and include such things as market size, demand, supply, competitors, suppliers, and distributors.

Global Effects of Ozone Depletion Essay -- Environment Ozone Layer Ess

Global Effects of Ozone Depletion Ozone depletion in the earth’s atmosphere is under constant scrutiny by the American press and people. Perhaps the concern is warranted; the ozone layer protects life on earth by absorbing 97-99% of the damaging ultraviolet radiation from the sun (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 2006). Over the past twenty years, the stratospheric ozone has decreased approximately 3% per decade. Possible concerns have been raised about loss of polar caps, DNA damage, increased human health risks, and environmental process disturbance. Emerging research has helped clarify effects of global ozone depletion. Three areas that have received recent scientific attention include UV effects upon macroalgae, decomposition, and nitrogen fixation. Ozone is depleted both by natural and industrial sources. One natural source of depletion is volatile organohalogens, which are produced by marine macroalgae (Laturnus, et. al., 2004). Scientists are not sure why macroalgae produce organohalogens, but many believe it is due to stress. UV radiation is a known source of plant stress. If this is the case, then plants would likely produce more organohalogens if exposed to increased UV radiation. To test this hypothesis, a group of Swedish scientists applied increased levels of radiation to five marine macroalgal species. After four hours, the levels of organohalogens produced by the macroalgae were measured. The scientists found that â€Å"exposure to ultraviolet radiation rendered a significant increase in the concentration of four or more of the volatile organohalogens for each of the studied macroalgal species† (Laturnus, et. al., 2004). Gender equality Essay

The role of man and woman in society is influenced by a variety of factors. These factors vary with the religion, culture, historical beliefs, living principles and experiences. Therefore, gender role in society can be defined as the role portrayed by an individual with respect to a combination of factors or any one of them, depending on the living conditions. In the Filipino folklore, Tungkung Langit and Alunsina, Alunsina is a beautiful goddess and was courted by the god, Tungkung Langit for many years. When they got married, they established a home in heaven, a place where everything was perfectly according to the will of these two gods. Alunsina’s hardworking husband wanted to bring order to the confused universe. He was the one who arranged the heavenly bodies and maintained order and regularity in the world. One day, Tungkung Langit went for a long journey to organize time for the world. Alunsina could not help but send the breeze to spy on Tungkung Langit. When the god knew of the spy, sent by his wife, he got mad at his wife and told her a lot of hateful things. For Tungkung Langit, Alunsina’s act was very ungodly by getting jealous since there were no gods in the world except for them. Alunsina did not accept this painful criticism from Tungkung Langit, so she said a lot of hurtful things to him. This led the god to drive his wife away. After this, the beautiful goddess was never seen again. We can say that Alunsina did an unacceptable thing to the pride of Tungkung Langit by spying on his job. Alunsina was a very worrisome person who wanted to do something to stop her worry. She sent a spy so that she would feel relieved of his husband’s situation. It is also possible that Alunsina was so in love with Tungkung Langit that she did not want to be away from him. Since Tungkung Langit did all the work in maintaining order in the world, Alunsina did not have anything to do but be a wife to his husband. A wife’s role is to wait for the husband to go home. This role was expected by all husbands who believe in the fragility of women. However, Alunsina was also a goddess. We can say that all gods have limited patience because of the big amount of power they have. Such power brings pride and confidence to do all things they want. Tungkung Langit found his purpose as a god which was to bring order to the confused world. On the other hand, Alunsina’s role as a patient wife was not enough for this powerful goddess who can command the creations in the world  such as the breeze. Hence, she decided to leave Tungkung Langit. Aside from anger, frustration, there might be other reasons why Alunsina did not return to Tungkung Langit. A god has powers and to appreciate his or her existence, he or she must use it. This analogy is similar to humans’ talents and search for their purpose. The love of Tungkung Langit is not enough. Alinsuna may have decided to look for a way to love her divine being as how Tungkung Langit expressed his se lf-love by maintaining order in the world. A lot of women today are like Alunsina. We are not confident to look for contentment aside from being a lowly wife. Empowered women love themselves not because they meet the expectations of other but they believe in their feminine beauty and capability to be different. In the article, although many stereotypical gender roles have diminished over time, still, men and women may not be equal when it comes down to certain tasks. In today’s society, I believe that it is still hard being a woman rather than being a man. I believe this because, not only do women still have a hard time looking for jobs, and being equal in the workforce, but women are still judged because they are simply women. Although in today’s society women and men are not that different in their roles in life, women can do about all of the jobs that men are able to do like Sarah Elago. She is the current president of the National Union of Students in the Philippines (NUSP), a strong and beautiful woman that values leadership and love for the youth and her fellow countrymen. Gone are the days are where when women only had to stay home and be the house protector. Women are slowly entering many fields that men are usually abundant in such as: lawyers, doctors, mechanics, police, and also military. Whether these facts are acceptable or not in a particular society is an irrelevant question. The bottom line is gender roles in society are no longer a monopoly or an obligation for any individual. In order to sustain a better living, a person’s free will should be the sole determinant of his or her role.

Othello the Manipulator Essay

Shakespeare’s Othello: Iago, the Master Manipulator William Shakespeare’s â€Å"Othello† is a play consumed with deception, jealousy, and revenge, mainly caused by a powerful â€Å"villain† named Iago (1. 1. 28). Although Iago presents himself as everyone’s honest friend, he is always trying to manipulate and deceive them, as shown in his words â€Å"Whip me such honest knaves† (1. 1. 50). This heartless character even manipulates everyone around him including his companions Cassio, Rodrigo, and the Moor, Othello intending to gain power. His actions create a massive amount of jealousy and rage. All of this revenge and manipulation first forms when Cassio is chosen for the position as Othello’s Lieutenant, a job which Iago wanted desperately. This sends Iago into a rage motivated by his hunger for power. His revenge towards Cassio first begins at a celebration when Iago pressures him into having one drink after another knowing Cassio has a low tolerance with alcohol. Under pressure, Cassio argues, â€Å"Not tonight, good Iago: I have very poor and unhappy brains for drinking: I could well wish courtesy would invent some other custom of entertainment† (2. . 1164-1167). Iago’s perfects his manipulation by taking advantage of other’s weaknesses. Iago manipulates both Cassio and Rodrigo into fighting each other which results in Othello taking away Cassio’s title as Lieutenant. Using Cassio’s statement, †She’s a most exquisite lady† Iago is able to use this to conjure a second mastermind plan to have Cassio’s rep utation ruined by convincing Othello that Cassio and Desdemona are having an affair (2. 2. 1152). Although Iago seeks revenge from Cassio for gaining Iago’s desired position as Lieutenant, his main interest of destruction is the Moor Othello, which is the masterpiece of Iago’s many manipulative plots. Iago uses Othello’s beloved wife, Desdemona, to take advantage of Othello’s weakness. Iago implies, â€Å"Cassio my lord? No, sure, I cannot think it; That he would steal away so guilty-like, Seeing your coming† (3. 3. 1668-70). Iago’s coy assumption of Cassio overcomes Othello, making Othello think Iago is an honest friend he can trust. This gained trust makes Iago’s plans of destruction much easier to accomplish. Iago, also, makes Othello overhear a conversation between Iago and Cassio, which he believes he is about Desdemona, when in fact their conversation is about Cassio’s prostitute Bianca. As the two men laugh and tell sexual stories, Othello goes into a jealous rage, at the thought of Cassio having these relations with Desdemona. Iago multiplies Othello’s rage as he talks about the situation, â€Å"Did you perceive how he laughed at his vice? † (4. . 2602). He convinces Emilia to take Desdemona’s handkerchief, which was Othello’s first significant gift to her. Iago sets the situation up so that the sacred handkerchief will be found in Cassio’s room, and later is given to Cassio by Bianca in front of Othello. As Iago pumps more deceitful lies of Cassio and Desdemona’s affair into Othello’s head, Iago says, â€Å"And did you see the handkerchief? à ¢â‚¬ ¦and to see how he prizes the foolish woman your wife! She gave it him, and he hath given it his whore† (4. 1. 2604-08). Othello, having seen this will have all the evidence he needs to suspect Cassio of the affair. Iago then manipulates Othello into killing his loyal wife by suggesting, â€Å"Do it not with poison, strangle her in her bed, even the bed she hath contaminated† (4. 2. 2638-39). Iago’s over whelming hunger for power is also shown though his best companion, Rodrigo, whom is also in love with Desdemona. Discovering that Desdemona and Othello are married, frantic Rodrigo confides in Iago and asks, â€Å"What should I do? I confess it is my shame to be so fond; but it is not in my virtue to amend it† (1. . 673-676). As a master of deception, Iago proves to Rodrigo that Desdemona’s heart will be easily won by his lavish expensive gifts. With Rodrigo’s excessive amount of savings, Iago purchases these gifts that are intentionally for Desdemona and sells them for his profit. Secondly, Iago convinces Rodrigo into thinking that Cassio and Emilia are having an aff air. Iago manipulates Rodrigo into fighting Cassio at the celebration. Iago persuades Rodrigo by saying,Watch you to-night; for the command, I’ll lay’t upon you. Cassio knows you not. I’ll not be far from you: do you find some occasion to anger Cassio, either by speaking too loud, or tainting his discipline; or from what other course you please, which the time shall more favorable minister (2. 1. 1064-70) In conclusion, Iago’s deception and manipulation plan to gain power completely fails as everything falls to pieces. When Iago’s wife, Emilia, reveals Desdemona’s loyalty to Othello and all of Iago’s lies, it is far too late. After Othello murders his wife, he finds out all of Iago’s â€Å"honest words† were all lies and catches Iago in the act. In the final scene, Iago says, â€Å"Demand me nothing: what you know, you know: from this time forth I never will speak word† (5. 2. 3665-66). In the end, Iago manipulated everyone around him so he could gain personal power. However, his selfish goal of power is never reached and nothing is gained from Iago’s manipulative actions. Iago’s excessive lies and actions show that he is the main cause for so many problems containing deception, jealousy, rage, and revenge. Work Cited Shakespeare, William. Solution Focused Brief Therapy Essays

Solution Focused Brief Therapy Essays Solution Focused Brief Therapy Paper Solution Focused Brief Therapy Paper Solution focused brief therapy a type of talking therapy was developed in the 1980’s by husband and wife Steven De Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg and other members of their team. SFBT focuses on finding solutions to problems rather than addressing problems. Its focuses on future outcomes and goal setting methods to elicit change in an individuals prefeered future. A number of techniques are used including the miracle question. SFBT believe that change is constant and that each indiviudla has the resources within them to be their own â€Å"therapist† however many needing help and guidance to see this. It focuses on positives and avoids any reference to the presenting problems and use of negative language. It builds on the clients strehghts and skills helping them to identify their own inner and external resources. Although predominately future oriented one method of elicitng inner resources etc is to look at past successes when a client has dealt with problems. SFBT believes that small changes can lead to big changes, therefore the emphasis is on setting small, specific, realistic and achievable goals rather than more large ambitious ones. The focus of the goal should be framed with the solution and not the absence of the problem ie â€Å" I want to be calm and relaxed† not â€Å"I don’t want to be stressed out all the time† SFBT uses the same process with each individual client regardless of the presenting problem so is suitable for a range of issues. Miracle question The miracle question is the longest question used in sfbt its purpose is to allow the client a look into their future without their problem. I The question can be adapted to suit the needs of the client but asks if a miracle had happened and they woke up tomorrow and the problem had vanished what would be different. The therapist then goes through a number of questions to encourage the lient to visualise their preferred future. Scaling questions are also used to assess the differences in how they rate their problem before and after the miracle has occurred. Key concepts Identifies previous soloved problems ie recent examples when problem hasn’t been an issue or has been less of a problem. Scaling questions can be used at this point to assess this. Questions are focused on the present or future problems are best solved by focusing on what is already working. Compliments are used to validate what the client is doing well and are amplified throughout the sessions, clients are invited to do more of what works well for them. Scaling questions help to client to track their own progress and are used effectively for people who find it hard to verbalise. Coping questions Ae used to remind clients that they already have the skills and resources to deal with difficulties and focuses on how they are managing to keep going under advertisty. Disadvantages For the therapist they have to accept the lcients goals wether they agree with them or not. If a client feels they have gained enough from sessions the therapist has to accept this regardless. Therapist are unable to share ideas with the client which they feel may be of help.

Managing Finance Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Managing Finance - Essay Example It could also be defined as a financial a and quantitative statement prepared and approved prior to a defined period of time of the policies to be pursed during those periods. Beyond Budgeting (BB) is an alternative that is more adaptive and devolved. It replaces the budgeting model with a more adaptive and devolved alternative. Criticizing budgets is not new. But to define a set of principles, that guides leaders towards a new management model, that is lean, adaptive and ethical, is (Robin Fraser, Jeremy Hope). A budget is a too static instrument and locks managers into the past - into something they thought last year that it was right. To be effective in a global economy with rapidly shifting market conditions and quick and nimble competitors, organization have to be able to adapt constantly their priorities and have to put their resources where they can create most value for customers and shareholders(Juergen H. Daum). In order to do that, they need the right concepts, management processes and tools, concepts such as the Beyond Budgeting Management Model. The introduction of new management instruments such as the Balanced Scorecard, which help to better align the entire organization with corporate strategic objectives and to focus it on the essentials, has created the right foundation. Because if corporate strategy and the objectives are clear for all people in an organization, one can principally react faster to changing market conditions. But then the fixed budget comes into their way and prevents them from really doing the right things. Though what is often missing is a more flexible operational planning and control model. The Beyond Budgeting model wants to fill exactly this gap. NEEDS FOR BEYOND BUDGETING The management system's task is to institutionalize decisions through management processes on strategy adjustments, but also on adjustments of operational enterprise activities and resource utilization plans. This should enable the enterprise to continually control and optimize its short and long-term success in a dynamically changing enterprise environment. TECHNIQUES The goal setting technique: It should be based on agreeing external benchmark based targets, not on negotiating fixed targets. This is focusing mangers on beating the competition and not on meeting the budget. If the market goes up, a manager is still challenged to do better than competitors. The motivation and rewards technique: It should be based on recognizing and rewarding team-based success. Today, no single person can act alone in achieving specific targets for an organization. To reward people individually for reaching specific targets will create tension and mistrust in the organization, which is a recipe for bad performance. The strategy and action planning technique: It should be devolved to operating mangers and made continuous. It should not be managed centrally as an annual event. Only this way a company is able to use the know how from the people at the customer front to adapt fast and constantly to changing market needs. The resource utilization technique: It should be based on local access to resources (within agreed parameters), not on the basis on allocating them through annual budgets. Only this way frontline managers are able to act fast in front of threats and to
